My thanks to our Mayor for the courage in speaking up on how illegal aliens are adversly affecting our community. So many of our politicians and so called community leaders look the other way when it comes to questions of illegal aliens. We do not need to ignore the questions, we need to speak up and ask the question...does an influx of illegals in our small community drain and reduce our limited and precious resources to support those who have broken the law. Keep speaking up Mr. Mayor!
I attended the Chambers Economic Development Summit and I want to congratulate the Chambers for a great event and for spurring Economic Development in Oconee County.
I am amazed Jim Alexander would make the comment that the Chambers Summit was not about Economic Development. Every issue discussed at the Chamber's Summit was directly related to spurring Economic Development in Oconee County including the formation of one Chamber of Commerce!
Does Jim Alexander not understand what Economic Development is? Perhaps he is more concerned about protecting his job?
The 3 Chambers of Commerce just completed hosting an Oconee County Economic Development Summit and are now in the process of implementing recommendations from the Summit to spur economic development at a County wide level. Please explain why the County Economic Development Commission is now proceeding with a plan to spur economic development and at an intial "study" cost of $44,000.00?
The Summit called for the County to be a part of the process since they failed to show at the Summit, looks like partnership and working together means nothing to the County.
I attended the Chambers Economic Development Summit on Monday May 7th at the Walhalla Civic Auditorium and there were indeed, many good recommendations that came out of the Summit.
The Economic Development Summit itself-sponsored by the 3 Chambers-was one prime example of how the Chambers working together can benefit "the greater good".
I certainly would encourage the 3 Chambers in Oconee County to continue to partner and collaborate on future endeavors. Please seriously consider the formation of one County wide Chamber.
I cannot for the life of me understand why the County Council failed to show at such an important event in Oconee County? Every County Council member should have been in attendance, listening, learning and fully supporting this event. So sad! We need strong leadership at the County level, not leaders who thumb their noses at the citizens and organizations who are actively engaged and trying to make a difference in Oconee County.
