On Walhalla’s Larry Brandt named among ‘Best Lawyers in America’

Yes he is a great man & a great personal injury lawyer. But he should probably be added to the "best at getting corrupt county officials "off" also. I love Larry to death, but he is also known for defending government employees who have screwed us out of lots of money & got them out of going to jail. If I ever get into trouble I hope I could afford Larry...but I don't think I could. I'd have to have stolen money to pay him with.

On SLED makes arrest in missing drug money case

I know Kathleen personally also, and she is a very smart woman. Even if she did some of this, I too, think others had to be involved. I worked for the county for 15 years and have seen many people "caught up in scandals" and used as the scapegoat to cover higher ups,etc...Hopefully, as she and her family always seemed wonderful people, that this is the case for her. Like other comments above, there have been MANY past instances within the Sheriff's dept. where deputies have done things the rest of us would be jailed for, but somehow it all just goes away....I'll be praying for Kathleen & hoping with all my heart if she is a "scapegoat" - whomever else is involved, when found out....the citizens here will see that they are FRIED!!! That's just too much money for her to have taken just on her on..without any "higher-ups" being involved. Hell, when we find out the truth...maybe she didn't take any of it..?? Who will ever know? I usually don't bother checking up because I know first hand how crooked the whole county government is - it mostly only matters "who you are" up there for the punishments given or pissing off the wrong person. It may or may not be my business, but Kathleen was always one of my favorite people - tried to do a good job (this was before she transferred into the Sheriff's office) and did a great job where she worked before! I am behind her until all the details of "cash", purchased items, where she put the money,etc...come to light, if they ever do. I've seen people charged for things they did not do & people not charged for things that were witnessed and everything. The sad part is the people who were charged wrongly must spend lots of money on atty's that they don't have just to prove they were NOT guilty. Ms. Adam's doesn't care I don't think...she will do with Kathleen whatever or whomever the biggest dog tells her to or what her personal feelings are. I'm gonna try to keep up with this and even if she is guilty, without a doubt, I feel for her and her family. I just won't believe it until someone shows me "proof" without a doubt...and I don't think they can do that if no one else was keeping up...how can they? God help us all.

On Passing on a positive experience with police

Race...does not matter. Anyway, we're all doomed to watch "every little word" we say these days. I heard on the radio that Jessica Simpson has to apologize to "Native Americans" because she said to her ex that she was not an indian giver (in ref. to a gift she had given him & not wanting it back). God help me! I hear that phrase all the time and NEVER thought anything about it as I do other phrases I was brought up using. I also hear "cracker, honkey,etc.." yelled out car windows at white folks by black folks, but no one EVER complains. And I never heard that growing up! LOL

On Ministry leader building $4M home on Lake Keowee

Well I'll just say this about this evangelist or whatever you want to call him. And my statement goes to anyone in his category, local or not, if they are a Preacher of the Lord's work or a bible thumper (not using that term negatively). I just hope they enjoy their ONE or MANY mansions on earth...'cause I gotta feeling they won't be getting one in heaven.

On Seneca man pulled over for speeding, then charge with pot posession

Okay, why is it necessary for each deputy to do a "routine" underneath the seats before a shift? Do they think someone breaks into patrol cars & "plants" evidence between shifts? Something is wrong with that statement if they are talking about the patrol car (which is what it says). Looks to me that if they did not find a bag of "weed" on this guy, how did he manage to bend over while in the back seat to plant it without the deputy noticing???? Looks to me like this statement in the paper gives the guy a "I got set-up" defense....Hmmmmm. Hell, if that's all they found under their own carseat, they need to just charge him with those "initial" charges & "save their faces" on the latter one.

On City should address parking problems

If y'all decide to go "set those dogs free", you might better check the trespassing laws first or you'll be the ones arrested.... And the owner just might not like it either.... If they are not breaking any laws...then it's none of your business. I don't like seeing dogs chained either...but I mind my own business! We got too many people around here with nothing to do except mind other people's business...tsk, tsk.

On Ex-magistrate Gerrard arrested, charged with felony offense

Seems like everyone in Oconee County at least is glad to see Ms. Gerard finally, hopefully get her dues for her bad deeds over the years. But nothing will probably happen to her. It has never in the past...anybody from Oconee I am sure has heard all the gossip/factual stuff about her since she was first put in as a Magistrate. I think they just had to at least arrest her & let her go 'cause people would be all upset too much. But it will never come to fruition for any jail time,etc.. Because actually, according to the news, it was back in November she stole the other lady's keys, then poured a liquid all inside & then apparenlty keyed the other judges car. Whew! If it had been any of us we would have been arrested as soon as they saw us on the video camera....not months later just so she could resign first, rather than being fired! I have a good guess who the next Chief Magistrate will be....but'll I'll wait to see if I am right. By the by...I did post about this already, but it wasn't there the next day. Maybe they figured they better start posting or it would actually look like there was something going on! LOL There has apparently been something going on for several months...Oh well, we'll just see what falls out from under that "old" robe of hers.

On Councilman George Blanchard resigns

Your welcome Jon. I left on my own accord also. I just got so tired of all the "stuff". We apparently left around the same time as I have been gone 9 years myself. I figured by who wrote the article in the AIM that there was probably nothing to it, but if it was so, then you would probably be a good choice too. I loved working at my county job as I like working with the public,etc...and I worked with some wonderful people who just wanted to do a good job, but the "stuff" just isn't worth it when you try to do a good job and the people you "think" you know and you are doing as instructed are just stabbing away the whole time. I worked there for many many years and over those years saw many very very good employees leave because of all the "stuff". It's such a shame, huh? Oconee County is a wonderful place with a lot of wonderful people. We just can't seem to find the right ones to run it.

On Why the lawsuits

I hate to dissapoint you Mr. Cleveland - and I do applaud your not backing down to government threats, but I know from personal experiences that if an employee tries to report any suspected criminal activies, somehow SLED always talks to the government officials before they decide to investigate....and they never did a thing that I was. But the person who squealed lost their jobs....that common practice in Oconee County - fire the one who is honest. They always find a way to set 'em up on some stupid diciplinary action & get rid of them. So employees are just scared for losing their jobs...and with good reason. Their "rights" under the Whislte Blower act is a joke in Oconee County too. You'd have to have a lot of money to retain a good attorney...and the county always keeps that stuff tied up so long most people can not afford the fight for what is right. But you go Mr. Cleveland.....

On Councilman George Blanchard resigns

The AIM says that Jon Caime is the pre-selected administrator the 3 new council want for the job. I know who he is as he was the engineer for Oconee a few years ago. He seemed like a nice fellow, but he too (if memory serves) got caught up in the system and it cost him his job. He listened to all the wrong people when working on the move to pine street, so they still don't have enough space for certain offices,etc....And those people who "appeared" to be wanting to help him do a good job were "stabbing" him at the same time. I worked for the county then & had some input into this project. I knew Mr. Caime was going to get "caught in the middle" of the good ole boy system; you could see it coming. That would be when Harrison Orr was Supervisor - he hired Mr. Caime & it was probably his arrogance that caused Mr. Caime his job here. I personally don't think he would want the job....but if it is so (of course his response to the AIM was that it was just a "rumor") I wouldn't mind him having the job, but maybe this time he will watch his back a little better. I think he got the shaft, but their were people trying to tell him things that he did not want to believe. He trusted Mr. Orr and council to be professional, but he found out about the "good ole boys". Maybe they should give him the job....then they can up and decide he's not worthy, fire him too & he could get a good severence package too! I think he does deserve something just for the shaft he got before.
