When one knows the details of why the previous owner of the restaurant chose to NOT renew his lease the picture changes. The member of the PFS quoted in the article is less than forthcoming and could be the subject of a lawsuit for defamation of character if he keeps spreading lies. The words "setup" and "collusion" will come to mind if and when the true story comes out. Ask around the community.
This should be of particular interest and concern to the Town Council in Pendleton. A "made over" ghost town at the former Pendleton Station won't cut it with the kind of people we need to appeal to, and attract to, our region. Council has a responsibility to the town of Pendleton, not to faulty developers and financial institutions. Let then eat their mistakes and bulldoze it!
The role of government, especially at the local level, is to "create the conditions" for people, business and industry to succeed and prosper. Planning for a sustainable community with some new initiatives currently under consideration will, most certainly create the right conditions.
This site needs to be bulldozed and brought in line with the historical characteristics of the community. Those responsible for the design and construction of this poor excuse of a development and for circumventing the limitations of the community code MUST eat the cost and move on. The developer, bank, and Pendleton Codes Officer ALL failed the people of Pendleton.
As far as a new developer rescuing the development is concerned, take a look around the community --- look at Meehan Falls, Heritage Oaks, and other areas of Pendleton. Design your development with class or give up!
Pendleton is "on the bubble" and about to transform into a sustainable community ensuring a viable future through a unique program involving ALL of the people. Town council must postpone any decisions until they have substantial citizen input and have given the "new" initiative time to take hold.
Let's keep the historical charm because once it is gone it is lost forever. Elected decision makers take heed.
Pendleton is not a student housing town but is a wonderful place for the current residents, grad students with families, faculty, staff, upward moving professionals and retirees. Let's keep Pendleton a classy town!
Anonymous-- By the way, it's "entpbob, not enthob" in case you may be interestes in getting it right. But then again, you probably have no clue what that all means. I'm not at all surprised you need someone with an IQ above room temperature to translate for you. You must know you sound like the 85% in the "what to think" category as opposed to the 15% in the "how to think group," right? It's been fun but I must get back to conversing with those in the 15%. ta ta
"anonymous" is certainly entitled to his/her opinion BUT I would wager he/she has never been "in the game" like Davis and the rest of the Tigers. As far as field goals are concerned, have YOU ever been a two sport athlete - maybe a one sport student athlete or are you just one of the many loudmouths in the crowd? Talk about arrogance "anonymous" doesn't even have the guts to sign a name. That's cowardice - gutless. Anybody can shoot off their mouth.
Excellent article! A small group of people with negative attitudes and big mouths who know very little, if anything, about the game can hurt morale and a be a destructive force on the whole program. These kind of people are NOT FANS but are usually very insecure loud mouths with very poor "track records" who contribute little to society. Perhaps if a player would give a "message on the tron" about sportmanship it MAY sink in, but probably not. This kind of person is usually too ignorant for ANY message to penetrate a non-functioning mind.
Good points raised by "opion," "thlhjh76" and "llinsin." It's refreshing to see concerned people speak up. I hope you are all volunteering your time and talent and contributing to help solve the problems and will share specifics with the people at Economic Development, County Council and the Oconee Alliance.
I will try to make the next Oconee Alliance meeting and if I do, please take time to look me up and introduce yourself. Hopefully, we can share some constructive thoughts. As a semi-retired consultant I am volunteering my time to lend whatever expertise will serve the needs of my friends in Oconee County.
There is no silver bullet for economic development so everybody has to work with what they have and make the best of it. Fortunately, Oconee is one of the best kept secrets in the country and is a treasure of natural resources. It has all the ingredients to have the best quality of life found anywhere.
Progress is being made to create the environment essential for planned growth in the area of economic development. Jim Alexander gets a lot of mileage out of what he has to work with and it is showing. The Oconee Alliance is focusing on the "other side of the coin" with their Executive Director, Jim Gadd, complimenting Jim Alexander's efforts. Together they make a great team that will produce the kind of results that will make Oconee County a great place to live, work and do business. This all takes time.
If Jim Alexander says he needs extra people, then he needs extra people. Is that difficult to understand? As a Consultant the most difficult task I face is explaining to people who "don't get it, that the problem is that they don't get it."
Jim Alexander and Jim Gadd are trying to create that required environment. Jim knows the kind of small high tech business that fits well with the charm of Oconee. With your local industries backing him up, Oconee is a winner in all respects. Cooperate and give them the tools........if you have the right skills then volunteer. Join the Oconee Alliance and be a part of the solution, not part of the problem.
Oh yes, while I'm at it, your Oconee County Airport and Kevin Short and his crew are an asset many counties would kill to have. The airport is not a playground for the rich, it's one of the best economic development tools you will ever have. Check out the traffic sometime, you may be surprised.
