Disagreement with our current foreign policy has nothing to do with support and respect for our troops. One of which is my son. I had and still have serious issues with a government that has sent him overseas twice, where he could have been killed but doesn't think he is mature enough at 18 to have a beer. That's doesn't mean I think everyone should drink beer at 18. It means that if you're too immature to have a beer at 18 then you are too immature to make or have made for you a decision to go to war! Questioniong the policies of our government is not unpatriotic. In fact I think the opposite to be true.
"The state can pass any law it wants to but the Feds will come in and tell them they can't enforce it, happens all the time and the states know that but it gives them an opportunity to give their constituents that warm, gushy feeling."
It's time the states started taking responsibility for their own affairs. The states need to tell the federal government to take a hike.
I sure don't think that I have all the answers and I sure don't think the feds do either! I've been part of the problem most of my life by doing what most people do. Not voting, not being active in the local politics, and whining and complaining about the government. The government can only do what we allow it to. We have given over control of our lives and most our freedoms because of a miriad of reasons, 99% of which boil down to not being responsible caretakers of the wonderful country we live in. I still do a lot of whining and complaining but you can bet I vote and I let the people in office know how I feel about things instead of just a couple of friends over a beer or something! If this country is to change it will have to start and finish in the families. Parents have to teach instead of leaving all that responsibility up to teachers that are government mandated and funded.
Guess I better stop here. This could turn into a book!
“The decisions of the BAR cannot be swayed by public opinion,” she said. “They are specifically responsible for interpreting the guidelines given to them. They aren’t governed by public opinion, but by the guidelines established by the city.”
Guess this should tell the public what the BAR thinks!
George Carlin's Solution to Save Gasoline : Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use..... The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down..... Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the Border.... When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo and ship him to Iraq .. Tell him if he wants to come to America then he must serve a tour in the military.... Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it..... After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country..... He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot..... . This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves...... If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle or ammo..... Problem solved.....
All this talk about names on deeds and property ownership is probably histerically funny to the powers that be! Personally I don't know anybody that owns any property including me and yes my name is on a deed, but like everyone else I know "I rent". If you don't think you pay rent in the form of taxes, just quit paying your rent and see who's name is on the deed next! Property owners my ____ !.
Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic favor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword.
It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry.
Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so.
How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Ceasar.- Julius
