On Sign ordinance causing stir in Walhalla

I remember a time when most of the storefronts downtown were boarded up with sheets of plywood. That didn't look so good either. I'm with JS and Ilinsin. One person's trash is another person's treasure, and what I consider "beautiful"...or not... is my opinion. Advertisers use bright colors to call attention to their business, which Mr Jones has done effectively. Thank goodness no one tried to impose their ideas of "right colors" in Charleston along rainbow row.

On Something else just ain't right

outoftowner, you must be an outofcountry-er if you think that all we need to do is start teaching Bible verses in public schools. We do not have a nationalized religion in this country, which means that your Bible belongs in your church, NOT IN MY PUBLIC SCHOOL. The schools have Jewish, Catholic, Muslim, Greek Orthodox,Methodist, Atheist, Pagan, Unitarian Universalists and Christians attending, so don't you think there might be a few good tax-paying citizens who might be just a little put out by being forced to learn and recite someone else's religion? Buddhists can be taught manners too, ya know.

John 316, printing on both sides of the paper is not ridiculous, it is common sense, reduces waste, reduces A LOT OF cost, encourages sensible use of resources (and ENERGY) and quite frankly should have been done a long time ago. Use only one side of paper? RIDICULOUS!

I'm still looking for the person who has another idea. Don't like what the gov is proposing? Well, what would YOU propose?
Or do y'all think that everything is just fine and should be left alone?

On Readers sound off about Governor Sanford

Before the truth of the guv's disappearance became known, there were already national queries into his whereabouts and discussions about the logic of leaving a state completely abandoned for almost a week. If I leave my job for even one day and don't report in, I lose my job. This isn't a minor post, friends. NO ONE knew where he was. Is this smart? Is it responsible? Clinton didn't abandon his job, yet our guv yelled louder than anyone for his impeachment and resignation. Now that he has commited the same sin, he should be forgiven...BECAUSE EVERYONE DOES IT?! Well, now when I was a little child and I used that "argument"..."but mama, EVERYONE does it!" she looked me in the eye and said that that did not make it right. Do ya'all read your Bible? Do you read anything beside the "cast the stone?" part? I see what y'all post here every week, and you cast more stones than an Italian mason building a football stadium! Something tells me that if the guv was a democrat, or a black man or hispanic man you'd feel differently, and don't challenge me to dig up your past comments, cause I will. Mr Sanford has not practiced what he has so loudly preached and he has put his own self interests above his American duties. Kick the loser to the curb. And if you don't like Bauer, well, that's your problem, cause you voted for him, too. You might learn from your mistakes if you had good schools here to teach you something. But the guv did his best to make sure that didn't happen. Laughing stock of the nation, and you're too proud to do the least of which Mrs Sanford did, which is stand up like an adult, be honest and do the right thing. Get over your destructive pride, folks. It's killing us.

On Former employee gets assist from cardiologist

I had the pleasure of working with Dr Hassan many years ago. He is wise, professional, gifted and patient, and truly a hero to many. Blessings on him and his family, and continued good health to Helen.

You still have a right to pray anywhere you want. You just don't have the right to force anonther person who believes differently to pray your prayers. Do you want to be forced to recite the Koran? Pray silently! God still hears you, and everyone remains FREE to worship THEIR God, and the church and state remain separate. TADA! America! Or, go to a Christian school and aviod the heathens altogether, if it's making your life so tough.

Fred says,
"you are going to hell"
Now, that is just plain hateful. I don't know if this has turned any of you onto God, a loving God, but if it has, if hatred and fear has turned you On to God, then just what kink of God are you worshipping? And what kind of life are you living? A life sitting in judgement? Judge not, lest ye be judged! It is written! JUDGE NOT. and yet, because you are "saved" you judge! ALL THE TIME! EVERYONE! SHAME SHAME SHAME. hOW DARE YOU ACT LIKE YOU KNOW GOD. As if YOU have spoken to God. As if YOU have seen the list. YOU KNOW NOTHING and your sanctimonious judgement makes all of us sick and ashamed to be associated with your vile. GOING TO HELL? Maybe you are. Maybe you have misinterpretted it. Maybe you should be living in love instead of living in judgement. Considering your postings here, you have a long walk to love but your walk to judgement is pretty strong.

And as stated, you are FREE to believe what you want, just as, in this FREE NATION, we are also FREE to believe what we want. We are not a "Christian Nation". How do you think tax-paying Jews, Muslims, Native Americans, atheists and Lutherans feel when you say that? Are they not afforded the same rights and responsibilities as any other citizen? Or NOT, because-as you state - we are a Christian nation?! We are NOT a Christian nation and true Christians do not judge others, not to mention TORTURE them, but that's another story....

That's great, Fred, bit the issue that many people have is that WE HAVE found God! God has made His/Her presence known to us! God's love is in our lives everyday! And many of us want you and everyone to find God, also... or not, if that is your path!...but WE don't tell YOU that YOU are going to HELL because of how YOU believe, and WE are Americans who RESPECT your right to believe how YOU want even if it is different than how WE believe. And our "inclusion" is labeled "socialism" with judgement and derision. Not Christian, not American, not admirable, not loving. Just judging. And you are not the judge, and you have not spoken to the judge, and your interpretation of what the judge said is read differently by many many people.
