Price2544, while I feel extremely bad for the family and child that suffered this the fact remains that not all pits are bad. Some are, but the majority are not. People are acting and speaking stupidly when they want pits outlawed, this is a free country and I have a right to own whatever dog I want. If it had been a chow that attacked someone it would not have even been in the paper. Closed minded people give pits all the bad publicity, while I realize they cause injury they should not be singled out. I have a right to own my dog, and if people don't like them thats fine, but they can't tell me what I can and can't do in my own home. My only point is that pits get bad publicity and its because of all the bad articles about them that people are scared. ANY DOG CAN ATTACK!!!! If you don't like pits then don't own one, but don't try to control others lifes. If a white man with red hair beats his wife does that mean all white men with red hair do. And where was the family that should have been watching the 4 year old, anyways if the pit was lose. This seems to me to be poor judgement by someone to have the dog loose, anyways!!!
Not all pitbulls are bad. Any dog can turn and attack. If you look up the dog that causes the most bites to humans it is a golden retriever, not a pit. As for saying it should be against the law to own one, it should be against the law for stupid people who don't check all the facts to post things. Whether you like pits or not, no-one has the right to say that someone should not be allowed to own the dog that they choose. I have had two, they both are gentle and well behaved. It does depend on how you raise them and treat them, and that applies to all dogs. They get bad publicity, but they are not all bad!!! Any dog when threatened will attack it is instinct, for their survival.
Thanks Louise Bell for saying what all of us have been for a long time, away with the BAR. I totally agree with her about the houses, some are historic but the rest are not and should be allowed to be improved however they want. I live in the neigborhood and want to be able to improve my home with being told what I can and can't do, especially since it will be my money I'm spending. I support MR. WILSON 100% and think the BAR is on a power trip that needs to stop. As for restrictions they are stupid, if you pay for a mortgage and taxes you own it and should be able to do whatever you want to with a property. I support those who want to make changes for the better, not control and manipulate the system to their advantage. By the way if the area is so popular as said by mollyhw then why are so many house for sale in the area, 4 on my block alone. Here's to change and progress support MR. Wilson and get rid of the crazy BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Beaux, you really don't get the issue do you. The drug houses are a problem that the police know about but if you live in the neighborhood and see what goes on like I do, you would understand that many houses are run down. Spencer Wilson is fixing these homes up and making the property value go up not down by using vinyl. Not all vinyl siding is cheap and the homes he has done so far look far better with vinyl then run down and caving in. The issue is not vinyl siding or not it is people trying to control what someone does with a property they own, and pay taxes on. Many homes in that area have vinyl, some old and some newer, why is their such a problem with him doing it when others in the neighborhood have. Just because a home is old does not make it historic. Some homes in the district are historic, but they are very few compared with the number that are just old. I thought if a home was historic it was on the registry, since the majority of the homes are not they are not historic just old and near some historic homes. To me vinyl siding is better than a rotting house anyday. The old, caving in houses that druggies use brings down property values, not fixed up homes with vinyl. Some people really need to drive through the neighborhood and they might see the real problems. Others are complaining about being told how they can improve their homes, it appears that everyone has just chosen to target Mr. Wilson. I am not saying that he did not violate a city stop work order, but their is more to all this then just that. As any business owner knows you work to make money and a profit, not for free. As far as the mobile home park comment some people need to stop looking down their noses at others and learn that everyone is equal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with everyone above, I live in the neigborhood in question and can not believe all the fuss being made. I really would like to sign this petition that was mentioned in the article. If anyone knows how please post and let me know. I saw the house before he began remodeling it and walked to it a few days ago, it is a great job so far. I would love to move to the house, I see now issue with what was done so far. These people raising such a fuss about this need to get a life and stop worrying about what everyone else is doing.!!!!
I really feel that Mr. Wilson is getting a bad deal from the city of Seneca. I live in the historic district and think the law should be changed to allow the vinyl siding. What Mr. Wilson had done for the homes he had fixed up is a major improvement for the neighborhood. The fact is plenty of homes in the historic district are run down and I would rather see vinyl siding then a run down house anyday. Some people are just to snobby and think that they control the whole neigborhood, I say let this man do his job and continue on, he is doing everyone a favor, not a diservice as others seem to think. Lets worry about the drug houses in the neighborhood not the vinyl siding, because in the end that is driving the property value down, not siding choices.
I really feel like the rules are so messed up. I live in the so called historic district, this man is trying to fix up a house that was an eyesore. The old caving in houses versus vinyl siding which do you really think is pulling down property values, my guess would be the rotting run down homes, not the ones that have been redone, with vinyl siding. Before his work this house was about to cave in, he had to strip the house to a skelton to even begin work. There are plenty of houses in the historic district with vinyl siding, so their is no reason that he should not be able to do this. I know because I live in this area and drive past them every day. The rules needs to be changed, I understand that some rules are needed so that we don't end up with crazy looking houses in the neighborhood, but this is going to far. Its time people worry about the crack houses that keep getting busted in the area that is supposed to be historic and stop worrying about this man fixing and making affordable housing in the area. I seems to me those few people that are raising all the fuss in the neighborhood, are trying to have complete control over who lives here and what those property owners can do with a house that they own. If that's the case then they can pay the high taxes for us. As far as I can see the houses in the historic district are old, and yes a few have historic meanings but the rest are just homes in the area. It may be a historic district but we need to improve the run down homes in the area, and that is just what Mr. Wilson is trying to do. We really need to change the backwards laws in the area and keep up with the times. Change the rules and let this man continue to improve the neigborhood. I support you Mr. Wilson.
