I think Wayne McCall should be happy that if any of the four being considered for the post, having looked into the record at Oconee county over the past 5 years, are still interested in the job at all. One other matter I would like to address, I know the economy is bad and most of us are a little strapped for cash but some members of the council do not give a very good impression with the attire they wear at council meetings, can we expect to see flip flops, shorts and T shirts in the near future?
Willie thanks for pointing out that the McCains will have to get by on just 4 million dollars of net income from Cindy, and that does not count the income from senator McCain paid to him as a senator, plus book income, plus speaking engagements. I sure hope they are able to economize and make it through the year.
Remnant: I would be willing to bet that you have insurance that you can afford or through your employer, good for you but until you walk a mile in one less fotunates shoes you should remain silent, as for you reading a lot of the health care reform, like any large document you must read it all in order to critic it.
Oldsouth: your comments would lead me to believe that with your distaste for a program run by the government you do not or will not participate in medicare if and when it becomes available to you,in that way you will walk the walk not just talk the talk.
Overtaxed: If you are a resident of South Carolina and think you are overtaxed it would be obvious that you have never lived in other parts of the country, nor even took the time to investigate areas outside of SC, as had you done so you would know that here you are living a dream not available to other parts of the country. There are however drawbacks to the low tax systems, like the old saying gos you get what you pay for.
I do not know if the new system being proposed is the final and best answer to healthcare as unlike remnant reading a lot is not enough for me, but when you take into account that the pharmaceutical co, hospitals, doctors, nursing homes, insurance co's, are pooling there funds to defeat whatever program might come, I for one smell somthing fishy and it does not smell fresh enough for me to buy it.
Regarding Clemson university needing more money: It seems strange that with the short fall of funds the university still spends 1 million + dollars to transport students between the ages of 17 - 22 yrs of age on campus 1 to 10 blocks to classes, at a time when as a nation we are concerned with the obesity and lack of physical activity of our youth, and cash is in short supply I guess you have to have a Phd to understand this.
We ask a lot from our police, we expect them to be physicians, clergymen, negotiators, physiotherapists, friends, enforcers, and every day we pass laws that protect the rights of those that violate the laws. Just, it would seem to make it harder for them to do there job. However all those that have been in law enforcement know that most of the time the charge of disorderly conduct is used when an officer has been challenged in a way that he or she feels the need to make a point but has doubts about what charge might be applicable, therefore the old stand by DOP is used to difuse the situation.
Knowing that Wal Mart will allow food items to be returned with or without a reciept leaves me to wonder why people would even want to continue shopping there. Seems as though this leaves an opening for tampering with the products. I am sure these items returned are put back for resale.
every state fair that I ever attended while growing up had side shows, they included the bearded lady, the strong man, the person with the pierced body so on & so on. This was very popular with the crowds as this was a show of things that were different, if not abnormal. Sara Palin is different, out of the ordinary different. she has gone where people of her background & education have not ventured before. She was a baketball star in school, a mayor of a town smaller than Seneca, a governor of a huge state with a population less than that of Greenville SC and then was on the GOP ticket for VICE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES no matter how strange her actions might seem or be people love different and in that realm she is a star to many and always will be
Senator graham does not need a new office to better serve the people of South Carolina.
The people of South Carolina need a new senator to better serve the people.
Should you ever go to one of his many offices already open in South Carolina you will not see him but rather one of his staff that will not even be able to tell you when he will be in South Carolina.
1) We the people do not always elect the president. 2) our government can not handle most disasters. 3) Bush did say that he would make no distinction between the terrorist and those that harbored them therefore the country they are in is fair game. 4) democratic congressmen like dodd, obama, frank and even acorn may have been part of the economic problem for sure but bush with his tax breaks although very pleasant for us has caused us to have to borrow from other countries to just stay afloat we may not suffer the real consequences of this borrowing but our grandchildren and great grandchildren will
I am fast approaching my 70 birthday and in all those years I have not seen such poor government and in particular such a poor administration and that does not let bush off the hook cuz when the fish stinks it stinks from the head to the tail not just somewhere in between
