we still don't know all the costs from the proposed health plan but a trillion dollars seems to be a consistent number. Do we really want the government who has done such a fine job with Social Security, Medicare, and every other program determine our medical future. Get ready for your 'end of life' counseling when you are no longer paying into the system. I for one don't want the government deciding what care I can receive.
Rather than worrying about increasing the 'sin taxes' our government should worry about their spending. I am tired of the easy target of tobacco and alcohol when economic times get tough. Also, the amount of smokers are dramatically decreasing, yet that is where you would like to turn to for revenues? That doesn't sound like a viable plan to me. If the government was run more like a business, they would learn how to tighten their belt when revenues go down. I imagine there are plenty of areas that spending can be cut without losing basic services.
