On Live here, pay 66% more

I would like to contend that the per capita is important when comparing infrastructure and services provided for the tax dollar. Over priced lake property, Nuclear Plant, etc. only shows that we have some properties that pay a higher percentage of the total than others. Showing per capita income and expenses on various services is a viable and proper method of comparison between counties. The Moderator on the Oconee County group (forum) on Yahoo has many statistics he has worked up from various sources that will open your 'blue' eyes.

Classy1, I believe you will find a few significant exceptions. You are right in that Germany, Japan and others have rebounded. But, unlike the Confederate States, Korea, Vietnam, etc, the US did not pour billions into the recovery efforts. Further, raping and destroying entire towns was never condoned in foreign wars, at least not since the Philippines. US soldiers were not held to these ideals and moral high-ground during the un-Civil war.

On Price tag for new jail hits $17.4 million

Rebel, it is equally sad that this can occur with a county building when our Codes department is so overzealous when it comes to making Joe Taxpayer jump through endless hoops.

After driving a lot in areas where every intersection has cameras, it has increased my sensitivity about yellow lights. The system activates if anyone is in the intersection when the light turns red. Photo taken. Officer reviews, runs plate and sends ticket to owner of record. No, did not happen to me, but to a friend.

On Sockin’ it to a laundry litterer

Don't worry about I-85? Comments might be valid until the point made where 85 is as far south as you can go and therefore who cares. Probably the folks that live there and have to deal with I-85 gremlins unless the OCSO is taking care of it.

On Jobs are going overseas, with or without Obama

Go to SC SOS web site for info on most charities. For this organization, they only put 12% of the money collected to the reported program. Pretty sad only $300k out of $2.6m went where it is 'supposed' to. DailyJM should do an expose and since it is charity, they should be able to tell the percentage paid to the CEO. Might just be shamefully higher than 12%.

remnant: Well said, nothing more to add.

Except, that justthefacts can only try to find fault in other posts and proved today that it only requires reading a part of a post to comment. All the facts are not necessary for a well written slam against others.

It does not explain or tie in the fact that the cost of living is terribly high including high taxes. Have met many Canadians in US on vacation. They travel abroad, inc US, with empty suitcases and buy all new clothes while travelling. The cost savings covers the vacation. Do those that work in the US want to pay even more taxes for the slugs that will not? I overheard an immigrant this week grousing about the stupid mistake he made by getting his SS number. Everything was free to him then, inc medical via ER.

On The news is the new — period

In regards to the slam against the UAW. We have all contributed to our own demise. We demand the highest wages for our labor and then we refuse to go out and purchase the product our company produces. Case in point are the high priced textiles that are American made, which is mostly due to labor costs. Likely no one reading this owns any American made clothing and if you do, it only accounts for a small amount of your wardrobe, or you are above middle-class, or a clothes-horse.

The collective we allowed ourselves to get priced out of the world labor market. We refuse to buy high-priced American goods AFTER allowing the various trade practices and changes to occur which allows near slave labor wages to produce our goods.

Worst example is using illegal immigrant labor inside our borders with the ultimate example being our housing. We want the best house for the cheapest price. Who believes the cheapest price will be with $20/hr legal labor vs. $10 illegal?

We want it all and we can't have it. Not in a world market.

Shame on us all for allowing us to get where we are. Question now is "Do our current government leaders have the smarts and ability to reverse this trend?"

On 'Gentlemen' don't kill pets

In this day if you were to stop and admit to running over someone’s pet, accident or not, you risk getting killed. People are just nuts. If the driver had taken evasive action that resulted in a wreck with someone else, he would have been at fault. And comparing a child to an animal is just ludicrous. Just how bleeding-heart have we become?
