Watch video of the full School District of Oconee County Board Meeting held April 22, 2008 at the District Offices in Walhalla. A standing room only crowd was on hand as Dr. Lucas & Mr. Mays recognized the achievements of students who participated in Lego League Teams, Regional History Day Award Winners, and Career & Technology Shing Stars. In addition, the Board recognized Coach Amanda Holder's 600th basketball win. Mr. Mays humorously allowed the students to head home to "study" before continuing with public comments which concerned the School Budget. Dr. Lucas celebrated Ravenel Elementary's achievement as a finalist in the Goody's Grant Program. Getting down to work, the Board approved the minutes of the March Work Session and Regular Board Meeting. Also approved were: Final Reading of the 2008-09 General Fund Budget, First Reading of a cohesive district wide Behavior Code, the 2009 - 2010 School Calendar, and First Reading to Rescind an antequated Policy JQE: Pregnant Students/Married Students/Unwed Mothers. The Board then approved proclamations in honor of Administrative Professionals, Bus Drivers, and Teacher Appreciation Week. The success of Amy Winehouse, who took home five Grammys this year, the most ever by a British female artist, and Lily Allen has record companies looking for the next big female singer/songwriter.

Luckily, the class of 2008 has much to offer in the way of British female talent. Just in time as the category for Best British Female at the Brits Awards on Wednesday (February 20) looks to be the most competitive in recent years.
